Syd (born in Birmingham, 1977), is a self-taught photographer, specialising in ancient landscape, mythology, storytelling and the ethereal. A single event back in the late 90s, involving a dark wood in Carmarthenshire, an SLR camera and a lone salmon in a shaft of sunlight, led to an ongoing excitement with the concept of capturing the ethereal. At the time Syd was delighted to discover that a moment of magic had translated to film and print, not just as a piece of documentary evidence of the event but the image encapsulated his otherworldly experience.
In the intervening years ever since, Syd has investigated these themes through various mediums including painting, film, installation and curation. Until 2008 he owned and curated an art gallery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Woom, where he exhibited the work of international emerging visionary artists. Since closing the doors of ‘Woom’ in 2008, Syd has lived on the Isle of Wight where he has developed an intimate relationship with the surrounding hills, seashore and woodland of Luccombe Chine and in 2010 the digital camera became his companion and medium of choice.
Syd is now combining a background in design and his passion for ethereal photography in order to help provide platforms for creatives to showcase their work, and would love to hear from you if you need images that elevate your creations or a new website to showcase your work?
